We’re heading back to a favourite haunt – Sturt Gorge Recreation Park. This beautiful 250 hectare park has the Sturt River and Magpie Creek flowing through its centre, has cliffs, native bush and the chance to spot kangaroos and koalas and maybe even an echidna. The map will also encompass the lovely suburbs of Blackwood, Coromandel Valley and Flagstaff Hill, giving you plenty of variety.
Choose between the 3-hour and 6-hour event – dive into the gorge, wander the suburbs or blend the two. Expect hills – lots of them!
Sturt Gorge has been an important place for thousands of years. For the Kaurna people, it was a travel route and a rich hunting area, known as Warripari — “windy place by the river.” European history began in 1837 when sailors deserted the Coromandel and hid in the district. Over time, the land passed through several hands, with Archibald Jaffrey purchasing it in 1849. The final private owners, the de Rose family, sold it to the State Government in 1969 so it could be protected and enjoyed by the public.
No food will be provided at this event due to its proximity to the city, but there are loads of local dinner options if you want to refuel afterwards.
Our events cannot run without volunteers! There are plenty of ways you can help while still entering the event. Or think about helping in the Admin tent.
