The Magnificent Velogaine 2020 will take place in the beautiful forests and farmland surrounding Mt Magnificent and the Kuitpo Colony. As you would expect from a velogaine the map area is extensive and contains many items of interest. Most routes are quiet gravel roads, bush or forestry tracks and pathways. However there are some bitumen options on the extremities for the ultra-competitive teams trying to clear the map! Some of these are busier roads but won’t make up much if any of a typical competitor’s planned route.
The hash house is located 58 km from the Adelaide GPO on private land. Allow about 90 minutes, adjusted with reference to where you live, as the final approach roads are gravel and need some caution.
Registration will start from 8:30 am with maps available from 9 am. The event will start at 10 am and finish at 2 pm. This year both regular bikes and e-bikes will have the full four hours on course however we will still have two categories for the final results. Teams of 2 to 5 as usual. To get the most from the course MTB or CX bikes are recommended but if you are a die hard roadie then it’s always possible. Just expect a bit of carrying might be needed in the rougher sections. The controls will be the lockable plate type with punches so scorecards will be used, not Navlight. The rogaine rules will be modified as is usual for velogaines to allow for a team member to remain with the bikes where necessary. Bike computers may be used for recording the course but using functions like lap distance and way points is prohibited.
We expect that we will still be operating a COVID-19 safe event with social distancing in the carpark, registration and the hash house. There will be post event catering with a late lunch menu, drinks and fruit whilst results are being prepared. Remember to bring your mug and plates.
The entry fee is excellent value at $30 regular, $25 concessional entry fee. Late fee $5.
So get ready for some early spring weather on 22 August and celebrate your freedom to ride the hills, roads and forests of the beautiful Alexandrina/Fleurieu region. Experience the headwaters of the mighty River Finnis. The Magnificent Velogaine 2020!
